No Client Access server running Exchange 2010 or a later version were found in site…

One of our customer has Exchange working Exchange 2010 environment. Customer wanted to create one exchange mailbox server in other physical location. Customer would use this new mailbox server to host only archive databases. So I have installed new mailbox server in separate physical location (in separate AD site), created couple databases and configured users to use this databases as archive.

Everything worked as desired. Then customer found out that he has some disabled users on production mailbox servers. He decided to move those mailboxes into new created non-archive database on off-site server. When he ran local move request he received following error:

No Client Access servers running Exchange 2010 or a later version were found in site ‘…’ (minimum required server version Version 14.0 (Build 621.0)).

No Client Access server running in site

No Client Access server running in site

After couple minutes of reading Exchange documentation I found reason and solution:

HUB

You must deploy a Hub Transport server role in each Active Directory site that contains a Mailbox server role.

CAS

You must install the Client Access seYou must install the Client Access server role in every Exchange organization and every Active Directory site that has the Mailbox server role installed.

Solution will be installation of those two roles into mailbox server.

I didn’t know that CAS and HUB roles are required for every AD site.

I am having the same issue. We changed the site where our two exchange servers are located in Sites and Services. I ran the following command to put the CAS server associated with our 2010 Exchange box : Set-ClientAccessServer RALIIS16 -AutoDiscoverSiteScope Raleigh254. We still aren’t able to do the local move request. Is there something that I am missing. If I run Get-ClientAccessServer | ft name, autodiscoversitescope, it shows RALIIS16 being in the correct site. Is there something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated
